"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is
the only thing that ever has."

     Background.

The Save Salt Spring Society is a registered non-profit organisation that acts as an advocate for the future
economic, environmental and cultural health and diversity of Salt Spring Island. We believe that we can best
achieve our mandate through research, education, and consultation. To that end we encourage the participation
of all Islanders, thereby ensuring that our organisation accurately reflects the views and concerns of the             broadest possible spectrum of individuals. As part of our initial development we are seeking people to share ideas, time, skills and enthusiasm in helping us achieve our goals.

   Activities.

The Society is actively engaged, through its lawyers,  in protecting several large tracts of privately owned land
on Salt Spring Island from the ravages of  industrial logging and inappropriate development. These lands include Maxwell Lake, the only  remaining pristine watershed on the island.

It is also  a working member of the Tap Water Alliance of BC.
Our future projects may include the protection of private forested lands from commercial plundering; provision
of safe and secure housing for ALL Salt Spring Islanders; education aimed at fostering sustainable agriculture
     and silviculture practices.
