Homeless
in Victoria
The
Tent City in Mayor's Grove, Beacon Hill Park, Victoria, BC, was busted
and dismantled on October 17, 2008
Four days earlier, the BC Supreme Court overturned a City of Victoria
bylaw that prohibited erecting temporary shelters in city parks.
Two days after that, in a closed door meeting, city council created a
new bylaw requiring all tents dismantled after 7am and not put up again
until after 9pm.
Several people chose to ignore this unconstitutional new bylaw and
remain in the park.
Police response was swift and uncompromising.
